Point of Sale (POS) Readers are typically used at brick and mortar stores for secure payment transactions. These readers undergo significant security certifications from the PCI and conformance testing from EMVCo which can take up to 1-2 years. The design uses a secure MCU to run the EMVCo Level 1 and 2 contact and contactless stacks as well as provides the necessary tamper detection and cryptography needed to pass PCI. There also is an ISO-14443-A&B NFC reader in the design that enables contactless transactions with NFC-enabled smartphones and contactless cards. The design has an ISO-7816 contact reader for chip cards and there is a PIN Pad for pin entry as well.
